Tottenham boss believes Chelsea target will start season at Spurs

Harry Redknapp is confident Luka Modric will still be a Tottenham player come the big kick-off. Spurs open the season at home to Everton on 13th August and boss Redknapp expects Modric to be at his disposal. Spurs turned down an improved £27million bid for Modric from Chelsea this week, with chairman Daniel Levy determined to hang on to the Croatia playmaker, who is under contract until 2015. And although Modric has indicated he would like to move to Stamford Bridge, Redknapp believes the 25-year-old will not cause a stir if he stays at White Hart Lane. "I fully expect Luka to be here at the start of the season," he told The Sun.

Not for sale

"The chairman Daniel Levy has already said he does not want to sell him at any price. "Luka is the nicest boy you could meet and he would not cause a problem to anybody. "But Luka feels he has a chance of playing for a team who can win the Champions League. He's also been offered a lot of money. "The chairman, though, wants to keep him and I want to build a side around Luka."
