Tottenham's hopes of a top-four finish rest entirely on Harry Kane, according to team-mate Emmanuel Adebayor.

Kane has 26 goals this season and was named Premier League player of the month for January and February, but he drew a blank along with the rest of the Spurs' side as they lost 3-0 at Manchester United on Sunday.

That result left them six points behind fourth-placed United with just nine games to play, and Adebayaor reckons it is down to Kane to drag them back into Champions League contention.

"I think he is the only one that can save our season, like I did the last season," said Adebayor, who scored 14 goals in the last five months of 2013/14 but has just two goals this season.

We all have a huge faith and believe in him. Hopefully, he will drag us out of the top seven and put us in the top four.

"He is learning through his difficult moment as well but he is fantastic player. If he keeps scoring two goals every weekend, he can save us.

"We all have a huge faith and believe in him. Hopefully, he will drag us out of the top seven and put us in the top four."

Adebayor's substitute appearance at Old Trafford was his first since a possible move to West Ham broke down at the end of the transfer window.

The 31-year-old missed another chunk of the season at the turn of the year after Spurs allowed him to travel to Ghana on compassionate leave.

He said: "I went through a little bit of a dark moment in my career but now I am back training hard and that's it. A lot of things went wrong. We are all human beings. We all go through a lot at certain time of our lives.

"I think I have learned from it. I went through a lot of family issues. Now it is behind me and I am back on the football pitch. I am very glad to be back. I just have to help my team and show respect for them and show respect for the club."

As for his long-term future he said: "The summer is a long way to go. We've got what, nine games to go? That is almost two months. So we've got plenty of time.

"At the beginning of the last season, everyone wanted me out; at the end of the season, they wanted me to stay. I just have to keep believing in myself. Today, you are zero. Tomorrow, you are a hero."
