Blackburn Rovers and midfielder Hope Akpan have been charged by the Football Association over their conduct in Tuesday's 2-1 defeat at Sheffield Wednesday.

Akpan pushed referee Scott Duncan after having a late equaliser ruled out for handball, and was subsequently shown a straight red card by the official.

The 25-year-old is set to serve a standard three-match ban following his dismissal, but could have his suspension increased if the FA deems his original punishment insufficient.
