Utrecht are confident they will seal the signing of Swedish hot-shot Alexander Gerndt. Skysports.com revealed earlier this week that despite interest from West Brom, Blackburn and Fulham - that a move to Germany or Holland was more likely. FC Twente, Cologne, Kaiserslautern and Wolfsburg are also keen but now Utrecht have claimed they are closing on a deal for the Helsingborg ace. "We hope to seal the deal soon," Utrecht's sporting director Foeke Booy told Expressen. Utrecht's new manager Erwin Koeman is understood to have pushed for the signing and now the club are moving ahead. "The first meeting was positive. We are discussing with the player, club and agent," Booy added. "We really want to sign him. We hope and believe that we can finish the deal soon, but there are three parties that need to have their say. "Utrecht is a good step, we believe that for sure. The Dutch league and Utrecht is in many ways a window for other big clubs in Europe and that is something the player is well aware of." Utrecht have been busy in the Swedish market recently signing Gerndt's team-mate from Helsingborg, Marcus Nilsson, and Swede Johan Marthensson from GAIS.
