Sky Bet have made Gary Bowyer the 2/1 favourite to be the next permanent manager of Blackburn.

Caretaker boss 2/1 to be in charge at the start of 2013/14 season

Bookmaker Sky Bet have made Gary Bowyer the 2/1 favourite to be manager of Blackburn Rovers at the start of next season after he was appointed caretaker boss on Tuesday. Bowyer has temporarily replaced Michael Appleton, who has been sacked after just 67 days in the job, at least until the end of the season, with Rovers in 18th position in the Championship table. Nigel Adkins (10/1) and Alex McLeish (12/1) are also thought to be in the frame, but Bowyer heads the market as he's been charged with keeping the club in the division with nine games to play. Sky Bet trader Chris Spicer said: "The Rovers job is fast becoming the most tentative in English football, so we're not convinced the highest calibre managers at Championship level will want it. "The team won three and drew one of Bowyer's four games when he was caretaker manager in January, and he publicly stated he wanted the job back then, so he's out in front in the market for now." Rovers, who are four points clear of the relegation zone, are 12/1 to be relegated to League One while Appleton becomes the fourth manager to be sacked under Venky's, the club's owners who gained control in November 2010.
