Aston Villa manager Remi Garde says he is considering making defensive changes ahead of next weekend's Premier League trip to Southampton.

Villa have conceded seven goals in their last two games, including three at home to Watford on Saturday, and now find themselves five points adrift at the bottom of the league.

Garde admits that he may have to try other options in defence for Saturday's trip to St Mary's.

"I have some possibilities so I will have a look but I don't know for the moment," said Garde.

"I have many players who can play also at the back, not too many in all positions. But some are possibilities for me, I will see."

Villa have not won a league game since the opening day of the season and have picked up just one point since Garde was appointed as manager in early November.

However, the Frenchman has refused to blame individual players for his side's current run of form, and insisted that the whole squad needs to improve if Villa are to secure Premier League safety this season.

"It is not always individuals though, it is sometimes collective," he added.

Garde felt his side deserved something from Saturday's game

"But also as individuals, for sure, they have to improve their level. That is not a criticism, it is a fact.

"Everybody has to improve his level and the team will be better. We want so much to score that we gave the opportunity to counter-attack too easily.

"The first goal was the most difficult to digest for me because it is not a question of tactics, it is just a question of clearing the ball in front of your box and we have to learn from that."
