Villa keeper aims to leave in New Year

Thomas Sorensen feels Martin O'Neill understands why he wants to leave Aston Villa. The Danish goalkeeper has not started a game for the club this season and is looking to move on in the New Year. He is out of contract at the end of the season, but Sorensen is keen for regular football in January in order to safeguard his international spot. The 31-year-old is now hoping that Villa boss O'Neill will allow him to quit the club when the transfer window opens.

At risk

"As long as it goes on and you are not involved in anything, you need to look elsewhere," Sorensen told Sky Sports News. "I'm getting to the part of my career where I'm not 21 anymore and what keeps me going is playing, that's the kick you get. "But when you are not playing, it puts everything at risk, including my international place. "I'm sure the manager knows that and understands that. I've got a lot of ambitions and it's just a natural thing in football that you move on."
