Defender set for contract talks

Aston Villa defender Martin Laursen is set to have talks over extending his contract with the club. The 30-year-old has been in good form for Villa and boss Martin O'Neill is keen to keep hold of the Danish defender. "We will certainly be having discussions with Martin before Christmas," O'Neill told the Birmingham Mail. "We are in the throes of things at the moment."

Keeping busy

O'Neill will also be talking to Olof Mellberg regarding his future at the club after he was offered a move to Italian giants Juventus. With a number of players also out of contract at the end of the season, O'Neill will be kept busy tying up new deals to keep his key men. The club are said to be extending defender Wilfred Bouma's contract by another year but keeper Thomas Sorensen is expected to leave Villa Park when his current contract ends. "We have a lot of things on at this minute," said O'Neill. "We have a number of issues on the agenda. "We can call on options like we did with Luke Moore," he added. "I will be speaking to everyone."
