Newcastle United have been fined £7,500 after admitting breaching FA rules over shirt sponsorship.

The club's U18 team wore kit bearing the logo of a betting company, FUN88, which is prohibited under the FA's kit and advertising regulations.

Rules state "services and related activities such as alcohol and gambling" cannot be worn by U18 teams.

China-based FUN88 replaced payday loans company Wonga as Newcastle's shirt sponsor last summer in a deal thought to worth about £8m a year.

In May 2017, Newcastle managing director Lee Charnley said the deal would "enhance our respective global profiles" over the three-year contract.

He added: "It was important for us to find the right partner and in FUN88, we have a shirt sponsor that understands the club and brings significant benefits commercially."
