Magpies defender relishing qualifier

Newcastle defender David Rozehnal is hoping to take his club form into the international arena as Czech Republic prepare to face Republic of Ireland in a crucial Euro 2008 qualifier. Rozehnal has looked assured since joining The Magpies and has helped Sam Allardyce's side remain unbeaten in their opening four games of the season. He will lock horns with Newcastle team-mate and Ireland goalkeeper Shay Given next week and is anticipating a difficult game. "I dare say that they will not travel here just for one point, they will want to win," Rozehnal told CTK. "I have not promised Given a goal but it wouldn't be bad to put one behind his back. "Otherwise, the Irish are very strong as a team and we have to be aware of that."

Positive

"But it is good when your club is doing well. You can then travel to the international games with a good feeling and I hope I can take it over to the international team." Michael Owen scored a late winner against Wigan at the weekend and Rozehnal was pleased for the striker to end his goal drought. "Our fans had been waiting for that goal for a long time," he explained. "We had loads of chances and then we eventually managed to score. The full house pushed us home and we remain at the top end of the table."
