Newcastle striker looking to tame Tigers

Shola Ameobi has warned that Newcastle must remain focused heading into a Saturday showdown with Hull. Kevin Keegan's departure from the club last week has overshadowed events leading up to the weekend's Premier League encounter, with events off the field threatening to hamper performances on it. However, Ameobi believes the Magpies need to make sure they suffer no slips ups in games they are expected to win. The striker is also keen to help the club make amends for a disappointing showing in a 3-0 defeat at Arsenal last time out.

Concentration

"It's been a good start despite what happened at Arsenal, and we have got these games out of the way now," Ameobi told the Evening Chronicle. "We can concentrate on other teams around us - the teams that we know that we have a good chance of doing well against. "We never go to places like Arsenal to lose, but we have to make sure that we look at Hull and pick up three points. "At home you have to try to pick up maximum points and that's what we'll try to do."
Boost
The recent international break has allowed Ameobi to rest a hamstring injury he originally picked up in pre-season, with the towering front-man now insisting he feels fully fit. "To play my first game of the season at Arsenal was good for me," he said. "The result wasn't what we wanted, but it was always going to be tough. They are a top, top side and they showed that. "For me personally, it was good to get 90 minutes under my belt. It was a boost to be thrown in there and be told to go out and do a job. "The hamstring feels 100 per cent fine now. I was champing at the bit to play at Arsenal. "It's been an up and down couple of seasons for me, but hopefully this is the end of my injury worries and I can push on from here."
