Hull forward Craig Fagan is considering taking legal action against Danny Guthrie after the Newcastle man's tackle left him nursing a broken leg.
Guthrie was shown a straight red card at the weekend in the St James' Park clash, for what was a reckless tackle on his Hull counterpart.
Tigers boss Phil Brown has been vocal in his criticism of Guthrie as he rues the loss of Fagan's services but the Football Association ruled on Wednesday that the player would only serve a mandatory three-game ban.
The FA's decision may not be the end of the matter though, as Hull chairman Paul Duffen has now claimed legal action could be taken as Fagan considers the implications a possible three-month lay-off could have on his career.
Lost earnings
Duffen told the
Daily Mirror: "This is the sort of incident that, had it happened in the street, would have been regarded as common assault.
"I wouldn't want to prejudice any potential further action from Craig, yet what I will say is that he has the club's full support on this matter.
"We will be sitting down with him and discussing what to do, what decision or what action he might want to take.
"The timing of it for Craig and the implications, short term, for his career could be significant.
"He was in the team, playing well and you have to take into account his earning ability in terms of performance bonuses and things like that."
