Sergio Aguero's impressive start to 2016 shows he’s returned to his best form, says Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini.

City will play Liverpool in the Capital One Cup final after Aguero struck late to beat Everton 3-1 (4-3 on aggregate).

The striker is back in the goalscoring mood after an injury-hit few months and has scored seven goals in his last seven games, including four in his last three.

Aguero, who now has 16 goals in all competitions this season, is pleasing his manager with his overall performance.

After scoring one goal and setting up another, Kevin de Bruyne left the pitch on a stretcher against Everton

When asked whether he was back to his best, Pellegrini said: "Yes, I think so. The last two games he's scored two goals in each game. Tonight he scored the decisive goal and is always making a lot of danger in the opposition defence. He is back to his best."

Managing Aguero's workload during a hectic last third of the season remains a key issue for Pellegrini, who admitted he may have to give the Argentina international a rest in their FA Cup fourth-round clash with Aston Villa on Saturday.

He said: "We will see tomorrow and then start the best starting eleven against Aston Villa.

"It's difficult as we have to play nine games in February. It's important for us to keep a winning mentality in all competitions, but we'll see tomorrow what is the best starting eleven for that game.

"It is not easy as we have injuries to Kolarov, Kompany, Mangala, Bony and De Bruyne, but we will try and put an eleven on the pitch that will allow us to keep us in the FA Cup also."
