Manuel Pellegrini confirms Manchester City's injury list following their 3-1 aggregate win

Manuel Pellegrini believes Manchester City are well positioned to go further in the Champions League after seeing them reach the quarter-finals.

City will be in the draw for the last eight for the first time on Friday after a 0-0 draw with Dynamo Kiev at the Etihad gave them a 3-1 aggregate win in the round of 16.

Pellegrini praised his players for ensuring they will continue their European campaign into April despite the uninspiring nature of their stalemate.

PSG, Wolfsburg, Benfica, Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid are already through while two from Barcelona, Arsenal, Bayern Munich and Juventus will join them on Wednesday.

Some teams represent more favourable opposition than others but Pellegrini will have confidence regardless of who his team is paired with.

He said: "We are very happy for the achievement because it's important for this club to improve every season.

"The last two seasons we were unlucky to play against Barcelona in the round of 16. We now arrive in the best eight teams in the competition for the first time.

"We will see how far we can go. We had a very difficult group with teams from the best leagues in Europe and we won it.

"We are now more experienced for winning the group and this means we are better prepared to go further."

Although City were not as ruthless as they have been in other home European ties this season against Kiev, Pellegrini still took positives from the return game against them.

He added: "We are normally a team who always score so we get criticism about not keeping clean sheets. We have kept three in a row now.

"It was important for us to keep the ball and not let them create chances. They knew before the game they had to score three."
