Manchester City are under no illusions that they can simply cherry pick trophies now Pep Guardiola is in charge, according to their chief executive Ferran Soriano.

The club unveiled their new head coach at the City Academy in Manchester on Sunday, showcasing Guardiola, new signings and a new club crest as part of a self-proclaimed "new chapter" in the City vision.

But Soriano insists the club's facilities provide only the infrastructure for success, and they must now work harder than they ever have if they hope to dominate English and European football.

Soriano told Sky Sports News HQ: "The Premier League is the most competitive league in the world by far, so it's a challenge in itself.

"We think we have the platform here for everybody to succeed but it's going to be extremely difficult. Nobody is thinking we are going to win the competition or all the games - not at all. We know it's very challenging.

"We think we have the ingredients but we'll have to work very hard - harder than last year.  We are very happy to have the facilities, but this is not even half of the way, this is only the hardware.

"We need the software. We need the talent, the way we play football, the intensity in the games, the hard work - this is the difficult part.

"Our objective is to get to the end of the season with chances to win everything. All competitions are important to us. We know that if we are in the final of the Champions League five years in a row, one year we will win it."

Soriano, who worked with Guardiola at Barcelona when he began his coaching career at the the Nou Camp, has been working since 2012 to make City the dominant force in world football, based on the Barcelona model.

And the 49-year-old insists Guardiola's appointment was the next organic step in their vision, having spoken to him about the role since they first joined the club.

"It was a very long time ago [that we started talking to Pep]. It might even be the summer of 2012, so almost four years," he said. "Quite frankly, we knew this day would happen, firstly because the Manchester City project is the most exciting football project in the world.

"But secondly we knew because he knows people here and how we work, and we know how he works, so it's a natural confluence of circumstances.

"I know Pep is very impressed [with the Cityzens Weekender] because at his previous clubs they didn't do this type of thing. Today I am sure he will have a very good time, and our Cityzens will have a good time.

"Tomorrow is the first day of work. At 8am we have our first meeting."
