Napoli have held talks with Manchester City over a deal to sign defender Eliaquim Mangala on loan, according to Sky sources.

The 25-year-old centre-back has not featured in any of City's matchday squads so far this season under new manager Pep Guardiola and is expected to leave the Etihad before the close of the summer transfer window.

Guardiola bolstered his defensive options with the £50m acquisition of England defender John Stones from Everton earlier this month and already has centre-backs Vincent Kompany and Nicolas Otamendi at his disposal.

Full-backs Bacary Sagna, Pablo Zabaleta and Aleksandar Kolarov have also previously provided cover at centre-back.

Mangala, who joined City from Porto for £32m two years ago, has struggled to find his best form in Premier League and has even been ridiculed in the British press for a number of perceived poor performances.

Meanwhile, Sky sources understand Besiktas are interested in a loan deal for City midfielder Sami Nasri, who is also yet to feature under Guardiola.

The 29-year-old, like Mangala, has not been included in any matchday squad this season and was labelled as a "little overweight" by Guardiola in pre-season

Nasri, who has won two Premier League titles at City since joining from Arsenal in 2011, was restricted to just 13 appearances last season due to injury.
