Brazilian playmaker clears the air with manager

Manchester City playmaker Elano has held talks with manager Sven Goran Eriksson over his future role at Eastlands. The Brazilian made an eye-catching start to life in England after a £8million move from Shakhtar Donetsk last summer. However, as City's form has slumped since Christmas, so has Elano's and his future in the Premier League has been thrown in to doubt. Elano, though, has discussed his role in the City team with Eriksson - who is also said to be facing an uncertain future - and he is confident he will enjoy a more consistent campaign next season after being handed a wide role over recent weeks.

Back to best

"I can always express my feelings to the manager," Elano said in the Daily Star. "I told him I cannot play a physical match against another player. "I told him I need my own space. Physically, I can't compete directly against an opponent. "My form dipped because of a muscle injury, but I'm playing now where I like to play and I'm getting back to my best. "I'm looking forward to being even better next season, because now I know what it is like in England. "I will be prepared for the difference in pitches, the weather, everything."
