Defender remains part of the manager's plans at the Etihad

Aleksandar Kolarov will not be part of a summer clear-out at Manchester City according to boss Roberto Mancini. The Premier League champions are said to be planning to slim down their expensively assembled squad with players such as Edin Dzeko, Carlos Tevez, Roque Santa Cruz and Emmanuel Adebayor all linked with moves away from the club. But Mancini wants to keep Kolarov, who made just 12 league starts for City last season, as a rival to Gael Clichy for the left-back spot. "Kolarov? He is a great left-back and I would like to keep him," Mancini told Italian TV station Sky Sport 24. "We have very good players and there many clubs interested in them, which means that we have done our jobs well. We know his value well and we want to keep him."
