Manchester City's Sergio Aguero wins Player of the Year award in Football Supporters' Federation vote

Sergio Aguero has been voted the Player of the Year by the Football Supporters Federation.

​Sergio Aguero has been named Player of the Year at the 2014 Football Supporters' Federation awards.

The Manchester City striker, who won a second Premier League title with Manchester City in May, came out on top after a public vote and succeeds Luis Suarez as winner.

Aguero has scored 16 Premier League goals in 2014 - second only to Swansea's Wilfried Bony - and 17 in 19 appearances in all competitions this season.

The Argentine was one of six nominees along with City team-mate Yaya Toure, Liverpool's Raheem Sterling, Morgan Schneiderlin of Southampton and Chelsea pair Eden Hazard and Branislav Ivanovic.

He said: "It's a really, really special award because it's from the fans. I'd like to thank the players and staff at the club.

"In the last three seasons we've never given up - it's my style and City's style, but we've got the squad to stay in the title race."

Voters chose winners from 11 categories ahead of the London ceremony, and there were awards for two of Sky Sports' football team.

Martin Tyler was named Commentator of the Year, while the Pundit of the Year prize went to Gary Neville for the second year running.
