AZ Alkmaar want Afonso Alves to be banned from playing for Middlesbrough for the rest of the season.
The Dutch club have announced that they will take their claim on the Brazil international to Fifa and are insisting they have a pre-contract agreement with the striker, which is denied by Alves, who joined Boro from Heerenveen on Thursday.
AZ chairman Dirk Scheringa, however, is going to ask Fifa to step-in and investigate the situation.
"He really has a chance of getting banned from playing for the rest of the season," Scheringa told De Telegraaf.
"We have a water-tight contract with him."
