Smith still keen on Davis

Walter Smith has hinted Rangers' bid to re-sign Steven Davis could hinge on the player's wages.

But Gers yet to make progress in bid for Fulham midfielder

Walter Smith has hinted Rangers' bid to re-sign Steven Davis could hinge on the Fulham midfielder's wages. Davis spent the second half of last season on loan at Ibrox and Smith had been keen on a permanent deal. The Rangers boss says there are currently no talks taking place with Fulham, who only signed the Northern Ireland international from Aston Villa 12 months ago. However, Smith confirmed he still has money to spend in the transfer market, but will not shatter the wage structure for the sake of one player. "There's no dialogue between Rangers and Fulham at the moment, but there is money left over to buy players on top of Madjid Bougherra, Kenny Miller, Kyle Lafferty and Andrius Velicka," said Smith in the Daily Record. "What you're looking for is good value in terms of transfer fee and wages. "You don't want to break into squad wage levels."
