The FA have confirmed that they will not be taking any disciplinary action against Chris Morgan.

Blades defender will not be punished for clash with Hume

The Football Association have confirmed that they will not be taking any disciplinary action against Chris Morgan following the Sheffield United defender's clash with Barnsley striker Iain Hume. The Blades centre-half caught the Tykes forward with a flailing elbow during a match at Oakwell on 8th November. It was later revealed that Hume had suffered a fractured skull as a result of the incident, with question marks remaining as to whether he will be able to resume his professional career. Morgan was booked for the challenge at the time and, despite Barnsley's protests, the FA have deemed that punishment to be suitable.

Evidence

"When judging whether to take disciplinary action in this case, the FA has had to consider the challenge itself and not the outcome of it," said a spokesman for English football's governing body. "The FA has been given express direction from Fifa that we cannot upgrade yellow cards to red. "On that basis, we can only bring additional charges in the most exceptional cases and only if it can be proved beyond doubt that the actions of a player were a deliberate attempt to injure an opponent. "Having reviewed all available evidence in this case, including submissions made by Barnsley, there is no basis on which an additional charge could be brought."
