Clarets stopper says hopes rest on striker

Burnley defender Andre Bikey believes star striker Samuel Eto'o is crucial to Cameroon's World Cup hopes this summer. The Indomitable Lions secured their sixth finals appearance last November following a 2-0 victory over Morocco in Fez. Paul Le Guen's side face Holland, Denmark and Japan in Group E when the tournament kicks off in South Africa next month. Eto'o has played for some of the biggest clubs in European football and Bikey says having the striker in top form is crucial to their hopes. The Inter Milan ace was the second highest scorer in the African section of qualifying and Bikey is hoping he can continue to bag the goals in South Africa.

Important

"Samuel is not just important for the team, he is important for everyone," explained Bikey. "We know he is one of the top strikers in the world. If he is fit and confident he can help us again. We have to be sure he is okay." Meanwhile, Eto'o promised to give watches worth £29,000 each to the squad that helped Cameroon qualify but Bikey quipped: "No-one has seen them yet! "We heard Samuel speak about this and he does like to give presents. He does like to do things for his country."
