Dimitri Payet has downplayed suggestions he's the signing of the season by hailing N'Golo Kante's impact at Leicester.

The 28-year-old Hammers star continues to dominate the headlines, having bagged nine goals with five assists in 26 appearances since completing his move from Marseille last summer.

And having recently signed a new deal to keep him at the Hammers until 2021, the future seems rosy for the London side who are looking to improve on their Premier League sixth spot when they host Tottenham on Wednesday night.

Ahead of the crucial London derby at Upton Park, Payet has opened up about who he thinks could win the title and played down suggestions he has been the best buy of the current campaign.

Payet told the West Ham website: "It is very nice to hear that people have said that about me. I am happy with how I have performed this season and how the team are doing so far.

"But I would say there are other players such as N'Golo Kante who arrived from Ligue 1 and has had an incredible season in Leicester's rise to the top of the table. A lot of that is down to him."

Slaven Bilic's team host Spurs on Wednesday knowing that a draw would be enough to hoist themselves above fourth-placed Manchester United. If Tottenham win, they will go above Leicester at the Premier League summit.

Payet added: "Tottenham have become title challengers this season and Leicester have taken all the attention by being top of the league, but Tottenham have also played well and we saw them beat Manchester City the other week.

"They are only two points behind Leicester so I think they have a squad good enough to win the league this season."
