Whites retain on-loan Sunderland defender

Leeds United have secured on-loan Sunderland full-back George McCartney for the remainder of the year. The Northern Ireland international has been a regular under manager Simon Grayson, making 12 Championship starts for The Whites. McCartney, 29, is delighted to be playing regularly and is now due back at Sunderland following Leeds' clash with Portsmouth on 28th December. Leeds have made a positive return to England's second tier and McCartney is not getting carried away with the team's lofty position.

"I'm here until the end of the month now," he told the club's official website. "I wanted to come here and get back playing. "We were a bit up and down at the start, but we're on a roll now. We're more solid at the back. "It's too early to say what will happen in terms of promotion, there's two good teams at the top and you would be happy with a play-off place, but we're still before Christmas and it's all about trying to get as many points as you can and see where that takes you."
