Youngster a target for other clubs as contract expires next year

Port Vale boss Micky Adams is confident the club can secure the future of promising youngster Lee Collins. The defender is reportedly being tracked by a number of clubs in higher divisions than the League Two outfit with Collins' current deal set to expire next summer. Adams believes the 21-year-old is happy to remain at Vale Park and can foresee no problems ahead of upcoming talks over the player's future. "I spoke to Lee about extending his contract at the beginning of the season, but nothing has developed so far," Adams told The Sentinel. "Lee's an young up-and-coming prospect and we'd like to tie him to a longer deal. He has an agent and he'll contact me, I'd imagine, and we'll take it from there. "From our initial talks there is goodwill on both sides, so I don't see there being a problem." Watford and Scunthorpe are two clubs rumoured to be interested in Collins but Adams admits he has no idea who scouts are eyeing up when they visit Vale Park. "We have Premier League, Football League and non-league scouts coming to our games on a regular basis and they don't tell me who they're looking at." Meanwhile, winger Lewis Haldane is nearing a comeback from illness and Adams believes the 25-year-old will seem like a new signing upon his return. "I'd say Lewis is a month away from getting back into first-team contention," said Adams. "He's got a lot of fitness work to do and needs to build his strength back up. "We've missed him, but Lewis will feel like a new signing when he comes back and I'm sure defenders will be disappointed to learn he's on his way back." Haldane has been out of action for the last two months after receiving lengthy hospital treatment for blood poisoning from an insect bite.
