Manager Lee Johnson was delighted and relieved to see his Bristol City side grab a 2-1 victory at Sky Bet Championship newcomers Burton Albion.

City had 18-year-old Chelsea loan striker Tammy Abraham to thank for the points as the youngster poked home two close-range finishes.

The first came after 44 minutes and the second in the fifth minute of second-half added time after Burton substitute Tom Naylor had fired home an equaliser after 88 minutes.

If Burton had held out, they would have earned a first point in the second tier, but Johnson was pleased his side kept pushing for victory.

"I am delighted with that result. It was always going to be a tough game," Johnson said.

"Obviously it's their first game at home in the Championship and it was always going to be a cauldron-type atmosphere.

"It's a harsh league and they have obviously found that out today in the last minute but I think overall we just about shaded it.

"We are a new team and we showed a lot of resilience. That's the third time we've had to do that. It's a good trait to have.

"We are not playing outstanding stuff but nice and strong, nice and resilient and we managed to keep going to the end."

Johnson was also keen to express his delight at the impact of Abraham who is at Ashton Gate on a season-long loan.

"Tammy has been fantastic," said Johnson, "not just in terms of his football but also his personality.

"We have got to be careful not to rely on him too much because he's an 18-year-old boy but look at how he's come in and taken the pressure on his shoulders and dealt with it. That's four goals now and fully deserved."

Frustrated Burton manager Nigel Clough was left to reflect on a cruel defeat, following a 4-3 loss at Nottingham Forest on the opening day, with the Brewers boss feeling his side had done enough to secure victory, never mind a point.

"Both of the goals we conceded were scrappy and almost bundled in," said Clough. "That's the way it's going at the minute. Scrappy goals last week at Forest and the same again today.

"It's difficult to take but even at this stage of the season, if the performance levels stay like that then I am sure we will be okay.

"We have wasted chances and we just need to see the game out better.

"We need to learn and we need to learn quickly, otherwise we will keep losing games. If you take out the result it was a pleasing performance from us and we should have won the game.

"The good thing is there isn't much wrong in either of our first two performances and it's a case of fine margins at this level."
