Brentford have been given dispensation to continue making use of terraced areas of Griffin Park next season.

The Sky Bet Championship club has been informed it can retain the Ealing Road Terrace and Brook Road Terrace by the Sports Ground Safety Authority (SGSA).

Clubs promoted to the Championship are given three years to convert terraces to seated areas, something Brentford would not have been able to do without a significant decrease in capacity.

But the progress towards the new Brentford Community Stadium, as well as the club's excellent off-field safety record, means they have been granted special dispensation to retain terracing, subject to confirmation from the Secretary of State.

Chief executive Mark Devlin said: "We would like to place on record our thanks to the SGSA board for allowing us a chance to present our case and for giving us a fair hearing.

"The introduction of seats into terraced areas of Griffin Park would have reduced our capacity by approximately 1,600.

"This is hugely positive news as this would have had a significantly damaging impact on our revenues and ability to grow our fanbase."
