Reading have confirmed the signing of Leandro Bacuna from Aston Villa.

The Royals have been pursuing the 25-year-old for most of the summer and had a £1.5m bid rejected last month.

But after signing on a four-year deal at the Madejski Stadium, Bacuna said; "I think it's going to be a different step for me, and I'm delighted to get going.

"There have been a few ups and downs but in the end we got it over the line. It's a really nice step to try and come here to play for Jaap Stam as well.

"Reading try to play from the back and they're really patient. I think that will suit me and it will suit the players, I'll try and do my best to help the team and try to get some wins."

Jaap Stam's Reading have opened the season with a loss and a defeat in the Sky Bet Championship so far, drawing at Fulham, whom they knocked out of the play-offs last season, on Saturday.

Stam said: "Leandro is a player that we have been following for a while. He has played Premier League football and brings quality to us.

"He is the type of player who can play in several positions in the team - in midfield, at the back, or even sometimes as a winger. He is a player with the right mentality and who wants to go forward; these are the types of players that we want to have."

The Curacao international made 31 appearances last season as Villa ended their first campaign in the Championship in 13th place.

Bacuna joined Villa from Dutch side Groningen in 2013 and since featured over 120 times for the club, scoring eight goals.
