Caretaker manager Lee Carsley says Birmingham need someone with a "proven track record" to succeed Harry Redknapp.
Carsley led Birmingham to their first point in six Sky Bet Championship games in his first game in temporary charge when Blues drew to Derby last weekend, but has indicated he is not looking to take the job permanently.
Former Tottenham and West Ham manager Redknapp was sacked after just 13 games as Birmingham boss, but Carsley - who has stepped up from his role as under-23 manager at St Andrew's - believes his hometown club need another experienced head at the helm.
"A club of this size, with the expectation, I think it needs a manager that has been there and done it with a proven track record," Carsley, who is also England U21 assistant manager, told Sky Sports News.
"I've got a real passion for coaching and development, I'm not saying that management is not something I wouldn't want in the future.
"But at the minute I'm really happy with my role at the club and want to make sure I'm here for the next few years rather than quick fix and, you know what management is like, it could be over in six, seven months.
The former Birmingham player added: "The responsibility of managing your hometown club is not something I'm taking lightly, I understand the pressure, but it's not something I'm overawed by.
"If anything it's made me more determined to do well for the fans."
