Sunderland defender Lamine Kone is expected to be out for eight to ten weeks with a knee injury.

The Ivory Coast international sustained the knock in training last week and missed the 1-0 defeat to Middlesbrough on Sunday. He was not selected for his country's World Cup Qualifier against Morocco.

It is another blow for Sunderland who are bottom of the Championship with just 10 points from 16 games, the lowest points tally by a team relegated from the Premier League at this stage of the season.

The 28-year-old, who has made thirteen appearances for the side this season, will continue his rehabilitation with the club's medical staff on Wearside.
