Barnsley keen to keep under-fire striker

Simon Davey has dismissed speculation suggesting that Kayode Odejayi will leave Barnsley in the summer. The striker has endured a difficult first season with the Championship club, and has found the target just once in the league. He did grab the winner against Premier League giants Chelsea in the Tykes' shock FA Cup quarter-final victory, but misfired once again during Sunday's semi-final defeat to Cardiff. Odejayi has made it clear that he is keen to be given the chance to prove himself at Oakwell, and his manager has now reiterated that there are no plans to dispose of his services at the end of the current campaign.

Valuable

"There is no truth in that at all," Davey told the club's official website. "Talk of Kayode leaving came about in the week leading up to the Cardiff semi-final but I have never had a conversation with another club and I have never had a conversation with Kayode about it. "Kayode is a valuable member of my squad and he is the future of this club. I have never wanted him to move on."
