Johnson plans Weale talks

Gary Johnson is planning talks with Chris Weale to see if he wants to stay Bristol City's No.2.

Keeper offered deal to stay as Basso's back-up

Gary Johnson is planning talks with Chris Weale to see if the goalkeeper wants to stay Bristol City's second choice. Weale has been offered a new contract at Ashton Gate, but made just five appearances for the Robins last season. Adriano Basso is firmly established as Johnson's No.1, meaning Weale can again expect limited opportunities next term. And though Johnson wants to keep hold of the 26-year-old, the City boss is aware the keeper may want to play regular first-team football.

Very talented

"We've offered Chris a new contract and he's considering it," Johnson told the Evening Post. "But before he does anything, we need to sit down and discuss what he wants at this stage of his career. "He's a very talented goalkeeper and is now 26. He will probably feel he needs to be playing every week. "We'll talk about it, see how he feels about being No.2 to Basso and then decide what is best for him."
