Colin Calderwood is hoping Sammy Clingan will sign a new contract at Nottingham Forest.
The midfielder's current deal is set to expire over the summer and he is yet to agree an extension.
An offer has been made to the Northern Ireland international, although Championship rivals Norwich, Ipswich and Queens Park Rangers are believed to be interested.
Clingan has figured prominently in the first-team fold at the City Ground since his arrival from Wolves in January 2006, and helped the club secure promotion from League One during the 2007/08 season.
Waiting
With the club expected to hold their own in the second tier next term Calderwood is hoping to tie up deals for the contract rebels as soon as possible, as well as bringing further fresh faces to the club.
"Sammy has been excellent for us and we want to keep him," said the Scottish coach.
"We are waiting to hear back from Sammy and hopefully before the weekend or next week we will have heard something.
"I think in the next week we will hopefully tie up one or two things in terms of getting Sammy signed and progressing with one or two other deals and then we've got a little break again before we come back for pre-season."
