Holland eager to bring in a midfielder on loan

Crewe Alexandra will look at alternative midfield targets after Simon Walton rejected a move to Gresty Road. Plymouth Argyle had accepted a loan offer from Crewe, only for Walton to spurn the advances of the League One strugglers. With Walton not keen on linking up with the Railwaymen, under-fire first-team coach Steve Holland will turn elsewhere in his bid to convince a midfielder to join on loan. "We tried to sign Simon Walton, but he didn't want to come, although Plymouth were happy for him to come," Holland told the club's official website.

Didn't fancy it

"We'll turn our attentions to other alternatives. "We'll improve it wherever we can improve it, but finding the players who are good enough to make the difference isn't easy. "A lot of clubs don't make them available because they are in and around their squads. I've had conversations with a few managers about players not in their team, but they want to keep them. "Then if you are struggling in League One it is a case of do the players want to come? In the case of Walton he didn't fancy it and that is his choice."
