Irishman set for January move

Birmingham City have agreed a deal to sign Irish Footballer of the Year Keith Fahey. The 25-year-old midfielder will move to St Andrews in January when the transfer window re-opens, after a deal was agreed with his club St Patrick's Athletic. Fahey began his playing career as an apprentice with Arsenal before joining Aston Villa - but he soon returned to Ireland after he failed to settle. Blues boss Alex McLeish is fully confident that the player is now ready to make an impact. "Keith will be hungry," said McLeish. "I know the other Irish boys who have come into English football have acquitted themselves extremely well - (Kevin) Doyle, the two Hunt brothers (Stephen and Noel) at Reading. "I feel that Keith will have the bit between his teeth to show that he can cut it in English football. "He's a central midfielder and from what I've seen of him he's got vision, passes a ball accurately, seems to have a good engine and I look forward to working with him."
