Alex McLeish hopes to keep Lee Bowyer and Stephen Carr at Birmingham but will not be retaining the services of several other players.
Scott Sinclair has already returned to Chelsea following a loan spell with the club, while Kemy Agustien and Carlos Costly will return to AZ Alkmaar and GKS Belchatow respectively.
Mehdi Nafti is also set to leave St Andrews when his contract expires at the end of June after falling down the pecking order under McLeish.
"I couldn't guarantee him regular football and we're looking to do other things for next season so we have not renewed his contract," McLeish told the club's official website.
Carr is close to sorting out a new deal with Blues after coming out of retirement earlier this year to revive his career.
Bowyer has also been a consistent performer in Birmingham's promotion-winning campaign after joining on loan from West Ham in January.
McLeish said: "We will make an attempt to keep Lee Bowyer and everything has been agreed with Carr.
"Carr wants to stay and he's done well. If he shows the hunger and quality he did when he came in here, obviously the quality is going to count in the Premier League."
McLeish is still considering whether he wants to keep Portsmouth and Fulham loanees Djimi Traore and Hameur Bouazza.
There is also some uncertainty about the futures of Stephen Kelly and Radhi Jaidi, whose contracts both end in June.
