Grimsby chairman determined to keep Posh target

Grimsby Town have rejected an offer from Peterborough United for Ryan Bennett, describing the bid as 'derisory'. Bennett has been the subject of interest from Peterborough in recent weeks and the Championship new boys have now followed up with a firm offer. Posh director of football Barry Fry confirmed the club had stepped up their bid to persuade Grimsby to sell the 19-year-old. "When we initially asked about Ryan the Grimsby chairman said they wouldn't even sell him for a million, but certain things have changed as they always do in football," director of football Barry Fry told the Peterborough Telegraph. "We put in another bid for him yesterday (Thursday) and are awaiting a response." However, Mariners chairman John Fenty has dismissed Peterborough's bid, telling the Grimsby Telegraph: "It's a derisory bid and the club will not be accepting it at all." Bennett has already made over 100 appearances for the League Two club and was voted Grimsby's Player of the Year after an impressive last season.
