Defender to stay at Deepdale until 23rd January

Preston North End have extended the loan deal of Burnley defender Leon Cort until 23rd January. Cort has made three appearances for Preston since joining from their Championship rivals in November and will now stay for a further three weeks. Talks had taken place regarding an extension earlier in the week, but both clubs' managers - Brian Laws and Darren Ferguson - subsequently left their positions. However, the deal has still gone ahead and Cort will be available for Preston's league fixtures up to and including the game against Middlesbrough. The centre-half, though, will not be eligible for Preston's FA Cup third-round tie against Nottingham Forest next weekend.
