Striker set for free transfer switch

Skysports.com understands Cardiff are closing in on a deal to bring Robert Earnshaw back to the club. Earnshaw is available on a free transfer after seeing out his contract at Nottingham Forest earlier this summer. Crystal Palace have expressed an interest in signing the Wales international, but it appears Cardiff are set to win the race for the 30-year-old's signature. Earnshaw is a big fans' favourite at Cardiff having started his career at the club and he scored 105 goals for his home-town club in 205 games before moving to West Brom in 2004. Cardiff boss Malky Mackay has moved to sign Earnshaw as he is short of options in attack with Craig Bellamy, Jay Bothroyd and Michael Chopra all leaving the club over the summer.
