Transfer news: Birmingham boss Lee Clark will not rush into market

Birmingham City boss Lee Clark will not rush into the transfer market seeking cover for injured defender Gavin Gunning.

Gunning is facing up to six months on the sidelines after damaging cruciate knee ligaments.

He will require surgery and will be a big miss for Birmingham at the start of a new Sky Bet Championship season.

It has been suggested that, with the window open, Clark may be tempted to go looking for a replacement, but he says he will consider in-house options before searching elsewhere.

Clark told the Birmingham Mail on his plans: “I don’t know to be honest with you.

“I am having a look. There are obviously people out there that we know about who could be potential replacements.

“We have also got good players inside the club.

“We haven’t made that decision. We want to give the lads a chance.

“Will Packwood hasn’t been in and around the squad at the moment but he has had a terrific pre-season. He had another really good game in the development squad on Tuesday against Hull.

“So there are possibilities inside the club.”
