Arsenal will contest their fifth successive FA WSL Continental Tyres Cup final against Notts County after Sunday's thrilling semi-finals.

Arsenal came through 3-1 against Birmingham City in the early game while Notts County edged out Liverpool 2-0 to book their place in the showpiece final which will take place in Rotherham on Sunday, 1 November.

First-half strikes from Marta Corredera and Danielle Carter set the Gunners on their way before Alex Scott's goal made it 3-0 shortly after half-time.

Kirsty Linnett pulled one back for Birmingham but three-time Continental Tyres Cup winners Arsenal triumphed in an entertaining semi-final.

Arsenal captain Scott said: "It's about all the hard work that goes into the season. You want to come away with some silverware. At Arsenal it's always been about winning trophies. That was our mentality going into the game, we wanted to get to the final.

"We've got a bit of momentum towards the end of the season so we'll be confident going into the final."

There were early warning signs for the Blues after six minutes. Arsenal broke from deep, Carter picked the ball up 25 yards out and cannoned a shot against the bar.

The Gunners took the lead seven minutes later as Corredera arrowed a terrific shot into the far corner from 25 yards.

That lead was quickly doubled as Jordan Nobbs played the ball over the top to Carter, who looped the ball over the onrushing Sophie Baggaley.

Birmingham nearly halved the deficit on the stroke of half-time, but Karen Carney's deflected effort was pushed onto the post by Sari Van Veenendaal.

And the Gunners moved further ahead two minutes after the break as Scott lashed the ball into the roof of the net from Corredera's saved shot.

Linnett grabbed a consolation on the hour mark when she curled the ball into the top corner to leave Van Veenendaal rooted to the spot but it was the Gunners who marched on.

Ellen White: England striker

In the later game, Ellen White's first-half double proved decisive for County at Liverpool; the England striker opened the scoring at the Select Security Stadium on five minutes and she doubled her tally midway through the opening period and their was no way back for the home side.

Meanwhile, Reading moved a step closer to winning the FA WSL 2 title with a 2-0 win at third-placed Everton thanks to a superb early strike from Rachel Rowe and a late goal from Helen Ward.

The win put Royals top of the table - ahead of Doncaster Rovers Belles by seven goals on goal difference - and a victory away to Aston Villa next Sunday should secure them the title.
