Martin Goodman will replace Mark Jenkins as West Brom's chief executive in December.
Jenkins is to leave the Baggies after 14 years - he joined as finance director in October 2002 and was then promoted to chief executive four years later.
Meanwhile, Goodman will step down from his current position as chief financial officer at Stoke to take up his new role on January 1.
Jenkins' decision comes two months after Chinese businessman Guochuan Lai's takeover of the club.
"This came down to feeling like the right time to go," Jenkins said. "The change of ownership feels like a natural moment for parting.
"I've watched the Premier League become one of the biggest competitions in global sports. We were late to the party and it has grown massively but the primary objective was to get Albion into the Premier League and stabilised at this level. That has been achieved.
"Now it is time for fresh ideas and fresh momentum to carry the club forward. But it has been a wonderful experience and I would do it all over again."
His last game at The Hawthorns will be against Manchester United on December 17.
Chairman John Williams will welcome Goodman into the role, having worked alongside him at Blackburn.
"It is a great honour and privilege for me to become CEO at West Bromwich Albion Football Club, a club with a long and rich history," Goodman said.
"I look forward to working with the chairman and senior management team at an exciting time for this famous football club, and I will endeavour to do everything possible to help ensure we maximise its potential."
