Keeper backed by team-mate ahead of new term

West Bromwich Albion midfielder Jonathan Greening is backing summer signing Scott Carson to shine for the club this season. Carson joined the newly-promoted Baggies in July from Liverpool for a fee of £3.25million. The 22-year-old goalkeeper, on loan at Villa at the time, struggled for form during the latter stages of last term following his error for England in the Euro 2008 qualifying defeat to Croatia. Greening, however, is positive that Carson will again demonstrate his quality in the Premier League, and prove his worth on the international stage. "It was such an important game against Croatia," said Greening. "I'm not saying [former England manager] Steve McClaren made a mistake but if he went with experience and didn't chuck him into the deep end, it might have been a wiser choice. "He was given his chance and didn't take it on the night but the next time hopefully he will and prove to be a great keeper for England. "I think he's got a bright future at our club and for England as well."
