Stoke forward Bojan has committed his long term future to the club by signing a new four-and-a-half-year contract which runs until the summer of 2020.

The 25-year-old joined from Barcelona in the summer of 2014 and has established himself as a fan favourite and proven top-flight performer, despite suffering a serious knee injury last season.

The Spain international is delighted to be staying at the Britannia and told the club website: "Stoke City gave me the opportunity to play in the most competitive league in the world, the Premier League, and I have only words of gratitude for their trust and for the way they have treated me since the first day I arrived.

"[Manager] Mark Hughes convinced me to come to Stoke, he has helped me and shown his trust in me from the beginning, he followed closely the recovery process from my injury, and there is no doubt I have signed an extension of my contract thanks to him."

Bojan also made a point of saying that his excellent relationship with the Stoke fans was a factor in his desire to remain at the club.

"They always support me," he said. "On the pitch, when I was injured, every time I leave the stadium.

"They are passionate and I can proudly say that my team-mates and I feel their warmth and their support every single day. That is very important for me and encourages me to keep improving and trying to give my best."

The club's chief executive Tony Scholes said: "Bojan has made no secret of the fact that he now regards Stoke as his home in a football sense.

"When he joined us he made it clear that he wanted a period of stability in his career. It's obvious that he has found what he was looking for with us and we're understandably thrilled he has signed a long-term contract."

Bojan made over 100 appearances for Barcelona, who gave him a first-team debut at the age of just 17, before spending time at Roma and on loan at Milan and then Ajax, after Barca had re-signed him.

He made a very promising start to life at Stoke, only to suffer a serious knee injury in January 2015 during an FA Cup tie against Rochdale.

He returned to action in August and has shone again at times this term, scoring five times to take his total for the club to 10 goals in 41 appearances so far.
