Stoke City youngster Tom Edwards has signed a new four-year deal with the club.
The defender, who has twice been named Stoke's U18 Player of the Year, only signed his first professional contract a couple of months ago after he completed his scholarship.
But after being selected for first-team duty in pre-season by Potters' boss Mark Hughes, Edwards' progress has been rewarded.
"It's always pleasing to see a local lad doing well," chief executive Tony Scholes told the club's official website.
"Tom's progressed into the first-team squad and Mark has included him in a number of pre-season matches. He's earned this new contract."
Stoke were knocked out of the Carabao Cup by Sky Bet Championship side Bristol City and have not won in the Premier League since they defeated Arsenal 1-0 at the Britannia Stadium on August 19.
City now have back-to-back home games, with Saturday's visit of defending champions Chelsea followed by a clash with Southampton.
