Sub Pericard delivers off the bench

Stoke's pre-season continued with a hard-fought victory over the Bahrain national side in Kapfenberg. Tony Pulis' side took the lead when Richard Cresswell, who partnered Jon Parkin in attack, saw his deflected strike find the bottom corner. Bahrain were far from downbeat at conceding a 32nd minute opener though, as they rallied and levelled not long after when Ismaeel Abdullatif smashed home a drive that went in off the post. Pulis' depleted ranks meant he was only able to make three half-time substitutions but it was one of them - Vincent Pericard - that proved the game's match-winner. Liam Lawrence slung over a 75th minute corner that the striker was only too grateful to head in from close range. Rory Delap will rue a lapse in concentration as he missed an open goal as Stoke pressed to cement their superiority, while Lawrence hit the post with the game's last meaningful effort.
