Russian striker ready to settle down to life in England

Pavel Pogrebnyak is adamant he has the right mentality to become a hit in the Premier League with Reading. The 28-year-old made a sensational start to life in the Premier League last season after moving to Fulham on loan from Stuttgart in January, netting an unprecedented five goals in his first three games. And now the big Russian is hoping he can do the same at the Madejski Stadium under manager Brian McDermott after being lured to the club by Royals owner Anton Zingarevich. Pogrebnyak is determined to fulfil his true potential unlike his fellow countrymen Roman Pavlyuchenko and Andrey Arshavin, who he feels struggled to adapt to life in England.

Mentality

He told the Daily Star: "I think the problem is with the Russian mentality. "In England you must work every day, in every training session. I think that was the problem. "I don't want to say that Pavlyuchenko and Arshavin didn't work. I don't know. But I think that my head is here in England." Pogrebnyak, who penned a four-year contract with Reading, insists he is keen to settle down in Berkshire and do well. He said: "I want to do well here, and once I had played in the Premier League at Fulham I wanted only to stay in England. "There were perhaps other clubs in other countries but this was where I had to be."
