U's boss brings in former Cheltenham full back

Colchester have signed former Bristol City defender Brian Wilson on a free transfer. The 27-year-old was released by City at the end of the season and was without a club, before manager John Ward, who managed Wilson in his time at Cheltenham, pounced to re-sign the player who made his name at Whaddon Road. Wilson is one of several players deemed surplus to requirements at Ashton Gate, having suffered with several injuries during the past season. "He can play as a full-back, a winger or a wing-back. I signed him at Cheltenham for £50,000 and he went on to Bristol for £150,000 a couple of years later," said Ward. "He has played 60-odd games in the Championship and, although he has been unlucky with injuries, they've cleared up now and we've got a good player. "He has plenty of pace and can score a goal. He got 11 for me at Cheltenham in that promotion season."
