Former Colchester United defender Matt Lockwood is hoping to find a club sooner rather than later, with pre-season training starting up and down the country.
The experienced full-back has been without a club since leaving the Us at the end of last season after a torrid spell at the Essex club.
The 33-year-old only managed six starts in two years at the club and was frozen out of the side under both Paul Lambert and Aidy Boothroyd.
However, successful loan spells at Barnet, twice, and Dagenham & Redbridge have proven his quality, but he told
skysports.com that he would prefer to sign for a new club as soon as possible, so that he can settle in before the season commences.
He said: "I would like to get something sorted as early as possible because you don't want to be playing catch up on the rest of the players in pre-season training.
"Clubs know what they want to bring in though and there are plenty of people around the game that know the situation that I am in and also what I can bring to a side, so it is just a case of waiting and hoping that people come in for me."
Relocation
The Essex-born defender currently still lives in Southend, but he insists that relocating would not be a problem should a club further north come calling for his services.
He continued: "I live in Southend and all my family are from there, but location doesn't play a part.
"You can't let that have an effect on you football career because otherwise it would limit me to around three or four clubs.
"We will easily uproot and move where work is offered to me and I don't think many footballers will say differently.
"It is an occupational hazard that you may have to move around the country."
